To prepare for their international delegation, Global Voices Scholars travel to Canberra for three days of Pre-Departure Briefings. Scholars meet with Government representatives, senior policy-makers, as well as Australia’s official representatives to international fora.

Scholars also meet with Federal Members of Parliament and Senators with portfolios and areas of expertise related to our program. Global Voices is a non-partisan, non-advocacy organisation and we meet with members of the government, opposition, independents and minor party representatives. Our ongoing relationship with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C) gives us unparalleled access to experts from a wide variety of policy backgrounds.

The Briefings are an opportunity for Scholars to gain a deeper understanding of Australia’s role in multilateral talks and the domestic impact of international negotiations. We also facilitate team-building sessions, policy-writing workshops, and media training. The Briefings also bring together young people from different disciplinary backgrounds and is the perfect environment for networking and developing stronger domestic connections.

The Global Voices Executive Team coordinate all necessary arrangements and provide ongoing mentoring to Scholars to help them get the most out of their time in Canberra.
