Global Voices Scholars participate in a Policy Fellowship, in which they produce a 2,500-word policy paper with practical recommendations on an issue related to their delegation agenda. Scholars receive ongoing support during the drafting process, including feedback from policymakers and influencers across Australia, with expertise in their area of focus. The paper is then published on our Global Voices Journal and shared with our key policy stakeholders and broader networks.

Media Engagement

The Global Voices Scholarship Program requires Scholars to produce a blog piece that covers their experience whilst on delegation. These articles are published on our News and Media Centre and shared on our social media accounts, to allow our followers and other young people to see what delegations are really like on the ground.

Scholars are also required to draft opinion pieces, additional blog articles, or op-ed’s based on their policy paper and written in a style intended for various audiences. Previous Scholars have contributed to ABC News, News Limited, Fairfax, New Matilda, The Conversation, the Koori Mail and The New Internationalist. Our Scholars also engage in other traditional and non-traditional media opportunities, in the form of podcasts, radio interviews, panel discussions, and presentations.

Social media also plays a significant role at diplomatic summits and scholars are encouraged to live Tweet and post updates from the ground. The Global Voices team supports the Scholars in creating a strong online presence and build their digital portfolio, encouraging them to: 

  • Conduct written/video interviews with senior diplomats and key stakeholders,

  • Manage social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter),

  • Create and edit short informational and promotional videos,

  • Contribute content, in the form of recaps or stories, for our social media platforms.
